Descriere

Memorably introduced by Ishiguro himself, The Summer We crossed Europe in the Rain collects the sixteen song lyrics he wrote for world-renowned American singer, Stacey Kent, which were set to music by her partner Jim Tomlinson. An exquisite coming together of the literary and musical worlds, the lyrics are infused with a sense of yearning, melancholy, love, and the romance of travel and liminal spaces.

Further exploring the notion of collaboration and interpretation, the collection is illustrated by the acclaimed Italian artist, Bianca Bagnarelli whose work perfectly captures the atmosphere and sensibility of the songs.

Recenzii

Ishiguro, who has been writing songs since he was fifteen, gives insights into how songwriting helped his fiction. He has penned beautiful compositions for Kent since 2006 and one of the treats of this book is reading his lyrics aloud. The compositions are like poems or short story vignettes. ― Independent

With illustrations by New Yorker cartoonist Bianca Bagnarelli, this exquisite collection of love songs penned by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro for the Grammy-nominated jazz singer Stacey Kent is both a testament to Ishiguro's emotively pared-down style and the eternal pull of romance. ― Red Mag

Beautifully illustrated by Bianca Bagnarelli, these lyrics remind us of some of Ishiguro's characteristic themes - memory, love, travel, music's haunting qualities - and are full of yearning, melancholy and the romance of travel. ― Irish Times

Beautifully illustrated [and] absorbing ... a uniquely three-dimensional sensory experience. ― BBC Music Magazine
